Rifts and legendaries: 18 arenas, 87 bosses

Last updated · Unofficial fan guide · Facts checked against the official site and game source

Rifts are PokéSurvivor's endgame hook: a portal opens, you step in, and you fight a legendary Pokémon in an arena built around its type. Winning also unlocks bonds, the system that lets you fire several moves from one slot.

How rifts work

  • A rift (a mysterious portal) opens on the map now and then. Enter it to be moved to a separate arena with its own terrain and weather.
  • Spawn timing became much less random on 12 October 2026: every time a rift does not appear, the next one becomes more likely, with at most about 2.5 minutes between rifts.
  • Legendaries you have not beaten yet appear four times as often, so completing the roster is a matter of runs, not pure luck.
  • Win and you get a reward; fall and you are sent back to the map with nothing. In co-op, the whole group enters together.
  • Dual-type legendaries pick one of their two types at random to decide the arena.

Terrain matters: lava burns, ice is slippery and water slows you down. Before you engage, take one lap of the arena to spot hazards and cover.

How to beat a legendary

Legendaries share the boss rules introduced on 10 October: four telegraphed attacks, a mix of closing in and fighting from range, and an enraged phase at half health. The fight is a dodge test more than a DPS check.

  1. Check the type matchup. Super-effective hits deal ×1.6 (up to ×2.4 against double weaknesses) and the chart also applies to the boss's attacks on you. Switch to your best coverage move as you enter.
  2. Respect the telegraphs. Circles and lines on the floor fill up before they hit. Move out sideways rather than backwards so you keep line of sight.
  3. Save burst for the enrage. Below half health the boss gets more aggressive; a maxed or evolved move matters more than raw survivability here.
  4. Use arena cover. Walls and trees block enemy shots on the main map; treat arena obstacles the same way.
  5. In co-op, spread out so one telegraph cannot hit everyone, and revive fallen teammates by standing next to them.

Bonds: fuse moves after beating legendaries

Added on 11 October 2026: every legendary you defeat in a rift gives you a bond. A bond links two moves so they fire at the same time from a single slot, and each further legendary adds another, up to four fused at once. That frees slots for more moves, which is huge in a game where normally only the active move fires. In co-op, choosing a fusion pauses the run for everyone.

Bonds pair naturally with evolved moves: fuse a passive damage source (aura, orbit) with your main projectile so you never have to switch away from protection.

Rewards and achievements

The official rift page describes a ×10 gacha ticket for a win. The 12 October patch notes then reduced this: legendaries now drop a ×10 ticket about half the time (previously they always dropped two). Every legendary also has its own "Defeat …" achievement, plus milestones for 10, 30 and all 87 legendaries, and "Rift traveler" for winning in all 18 arenas. See achievements.

FAQ

How do I find a rift in PokéSurvivor?

Rifts open on their own during a run. Since the 12 October 2026 update the game guarantees at most about 2.5 minutes without one: each time a rift fails to appear, the next is more likely. Walk into it to enter the legendary arena.

How many legendaries are in PokéSurvivor?

87 legendary and mythical Pokémon, fought across 18 type-themed arenas. Each one has its own achievement.

What do you get for beating a rift legendary?

A reward and a bond (the ability to fuse moves). Rift legendaries drop a ×10 gacha ticket about half the time after the 12 October balance change. If you fall, you return to the map with no reward.

Can I use legendaries as my partner?

Yes. In the game data legendaries are rarity-5 (5★) Pokémon in their region's gacha banner. As enemies they only appear inside rifts.
